and you were in it.
Silence and sunlight.
Love had god on its side
and no one
could save you from it.
It was hungry
and swallowed you whole.
Fish trembled.
The lilies were open wide.
Night Swimming, Derwentwater
Each lake is a page
we have not written on.
The mist is breath
suspended. Stars shiver.
Thereâs a ghost
of a winter moon.
It is late December:
the fish are hiding.
They hang in the shadows
like dreams.
We are half in the water
which stretches forever
